On October 11, 2025, the launch ceremony for Guizhou Suiyang Shuanghedong's 24th International Cave Science Expedition, themed "Cave World • Beyond Imagination," was held at the Shuanghedong Scenic Area in the Twelve Behind Tourist Zone.

On October 11, 2025, the launch ceremony for Guizhou Suiyang Shuanghedong's 24th International Cave Science Expedition, themed "Cave World • Beyond Imagination," took place at Shierbehui Tourism Area – Shuanghe Cave Scenic Area Held.

This scientific expedition aims to promote the high-quality development of a nature conservation system centered around national parks, further explore the resources of the Shuanghe Cave cave system, and unlock the unique resources and value of this remarkable underground network—setting the stage for future initiatives. Guizhou Shuanghedong Cave Providing scientific and technological support for the nomination of World Natural Heritage and World Geopark status, this initiative will help propel the high-quality development of Guizhou Shuanghe Cave National Geopark and enhance the site's global visibility and influence.

At the launch ceremony, Zhou Wenlong, a member of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of the Guizhou Provincial Institute of Mountain Resources, introduced the schedule for the Shuanghedong International Cave Science Expedition. Jean Potet, Ambassador of the French Speleological Federation to China and Chief Scientific Officer of Shuanghe Cave—the world’s third-longest cave—provided an overview of the scientific expedition.

Liu Liyi, member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the Guizhou Provincial Forestry Bureau, announced the launch of the event. Over a hundred people, including leaders from relevant departments across Guizhou’s cities, counties, towns, and villages, the cave exploration expert team, representatives from media outlets at various levels, and special guests, gathered to witness this grand occasion.

Guided by the principle of "ecological prioritization," Twelve Behind safeguards Shuanghedong Cave—known as the "Karst Natural Cave Museum"—while leveraging the fusion of culture and tourism as its innovative driving force. This approach unlocks a symbiotic relationship through the "Cave+" model: offering geological research programs that spark fresh insights, delivering thrilling underground adventures that celebrate nature's raw power, and even blending cliffside coffee with poetry and daring exploration. In this way, the cave—a breathtaking 437.1-kilometer-long marvel plunging 912 meters deep and ranking third longest globally and first in Asia—continues to shine on the world stage, all while thriving under careful preservation and sustainable stewardship.

It is reported that this scientific expedition has brought together cave exploration experts from China, France, Italy, Portugal, as well as relevant leaders and specialists from provincial departments. The expedition will take place from October 11 to October 23, 2025, and the latest scientific findings will be unveiled on October 24, 2025.
